PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS:

If your child is seven years or older and needs to be baptized, there are special classes for preparation in addition to the regular classes.

Special family sessions are given in the Spring and are separate from the weekly religion classes. One full year of classes are required prior to registration for First Communion. The child will be attending six sessions (usually on Monday nights) in addition to weekly religion classes. Second grade is the recommended time for preparation, but all ages ( 7 and older) are accepted.

Special family sessions are given in the Fall and are separate from the weekly religion classes. One full year of classes are required prior to registration. The child will be attending four to five sessions (on Monday nights) in addition to weekly religion class. The Diocese of Sacramento mandates that First Reconciliation be celebrated prior to First Communion, but any age ( 7 and older) is accepted.

Registration and fees are done through the confirmation coordinator. Preparation is a two year process which begins in ninth grade, and a baptism certificate is required at time of registration. Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings.

Practicing Catholic adults who have not been confirmed are invited to prepare for this sacrament. Sessions are held each Spring. The celebration of confirmation is held in May at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Sacramento. For more information, contact the parish office.

The RCIA is an initiation process for adults who either have not been baptized, or have been baptized in a different faith. If you are interested in becoming a candidate, or completing your initiation sacraments, please call the parish office  for more information.

Religious Education For Children:

Classes for ages three to five are offered during the 9:30 Mass on Sundays. It is understood that all parents who register a child in these classes will either assist or teach once a month.

Grades one through five meet once a week on Tuesday or Wednesday, from 4:00 to 5:00pm, or 6:00 to 7:00pm. The program emphasizes family involvement. Special family celebrations are built into the schedule which include children's liturgy. Home study is offered for children who cannot attend classes at the scheduled times.

Grade six meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30pm. Study sessions include the Bible, Jesus, and Prayer. They use the Junior High series  "Discovering" from St. Mary's Press. Fun social activities are also scheduled into the year.

Grades seven and eight meet on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 8:30pm, using the "Discovering" series from St. Mary's Press. Fellowship activities with presenters addressing junior high issues are also a part of the curriculum. At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, students are required to attend grades 7 and 8 as a pre-requisite to the confirmation program offered in ninth grade.

Religious Education For Adults:

Little Rock Scripture Study is offered to adults who wish to better understand the scriptures, and desire to grow in their faith. Groups meet both at home or at church to study and discuss particular books of the Bible using study guides and videos.

Inviting Catholics Home  is a special Parish Program, the purpose of which is to answer questions of those who have been away from the Church, or feel that they are on the fringes of it. The presentations and discussions are based on topics most important to the participants. There are sessions offered in the Fall and Spring. Six weekly meetings cover each session.
