Who Are We?
We are the Catholic community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Our parish was canonically established September 1st, 1979 becoming the second parish in the rapidly growing city of Fairfield.
In the beginning, the parish community celebrated masses in an elementary school, the back yard of the rectory, and the rectory garage. As the parish grew, masses were moved to Fairfield High.
1982 saw the beginning of construction of our new home, the distinctive gold structure on Dover Avenue that we refer to as the Dome. We moved into it in 1983. The community continues to grow and we now have 1600 households and represent a cross section of the city of Fairfield.
October 2000 marked another milestone when permission was received from the Diocese to hire an architect and begin planning for our new church building. Ground-breaking was on June 30, 2002. Dedication of our new worship site will be December 8, 2003
Our Mission Statement
Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish community is administered by the Carmelites and guided by the Bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento.
This Catholic Community's mission is to create the opportunities and the atmosphere for meaningful worship, sound teaching, spiritual growth, faith formation, and an active witnessing of the Gospel to the surrounding area.
In a spirit of Christian hospitality and friendship, the community follows the mandate of Christ to reach out to the other especially in their time of need.
We encourage lay participation, and actively respond to the changing needs and demands of our time. May God give us the grace to fulfill this mission to the best of our abilities.
